Gracey 1/2 Curette is an area-specific hand instrument engineered for removing subgingival calculus and performing root planing on anterior teeth, specifically incisors and cuspids. Unlike a universal curette, this instrument has a single cutting edge offset at 70 degrees to the terminal shank, a geometry that adapts closely to the smooth, curved surfaces of front teeth while keeping the opposite dull edge away from the soft gingival tissue. That single-edge design reduces the risk of catching or nicking the sulcus during subgingival strokes on narrow anterior root surfaces.
